- Experience at the Hospital on the Day of Surgery
Going to the operating room is not a normal experience for most people. Your surgeon and the professional staff recognize the natural anxiety that comes with this step. We believe a description of the surgery experience will be helpful.
When you arrive at the hospital, you will check in at the front desk with your patient coordinator. From there, you will be escorted to your room and asked to change into a gown. A nurse will review your health history. You will then meet with your surgeon to go over the surgery plan and address any questions you might have. Your surgeon will place surgical markings on you. You will then be brought to the operating room where the staff will do everything, they can to make you feel secure. You will lie down on a padded operating table with warm blankets, and the nurse and anesthesiologist will connect you to state-of-the-art monitoring equipment.
After your surgery is completed, you will be moved to the recovery room. During this period, a recovery room nurse will take care of you and remain with you at all times. If you have pain, they will administer medication through your IV. Your stay in the recovery room will last 30-60 minutes. Once you are more alert, you will be transferred back to the room you started in.
